Well it was a hectic week 5, many fantasy owners started their core few and lost because of the no name people taking over and exploding in certain offenses. Much like me with Plaxico Burress out, I had a friend ask me "who would you start since he is out this week." The first name that came to mind was Toomer . Ha was I wrong, I did for my defense also state Hixon which was the fantasy god in New York this weekend. Sinorice Moss, Santana's little brother also played a big role in the Giants week 5 win, and who could have predicted that. Eli Manning what can I say, I picked Peyton in a couple of leagues when I could have drafted a RB and waited till round 4 to pick up Eli. The Giants continue to be the powerhouse offense this year and looking much like the Patriots of last year. A very big surprise none the less.
Leron Mclain - Who would have thought he would be in the position he is at. He is bar none the best back in Baltimore, Mcgahee might take charge, well he will have to take charge. Mclain is money within the 5 yard line and if you look at the stats here how can you not like the match-ups he has had already that he has destroyed and if that is a sign of things to come what can he possibly do on weaker defenses? Do I think Mcgahee gets more yards and more scores on the weaker defenses? Of course but you can bet if there's a First, Second, or 3rd and goal it will be Mclain and not Mcgahee running the ball.
Gus Frerotte - Good game against the Saints, they contained Adrian Peterson and Frerotte wins the game for them, another Surprise was the long dormant Bernard Berrian who caught the 33 yard pass for the touchdown. This week they get the Lions and I wouldn't expect any less of the Vikes offense this week. It will be an overwhelming victory. Definite options for a pickup this week to fill in for your Ten, Pit, Kc and Buf players on bye this week.
Deangelo Williams and Mushin Muhammad, What a whopping they laid down on the Chiefs, and the Chiefs Offense (See Disappointments). Who I would have liked to place in this Surprises paragraph that is not listed is none other than my Fantasy Crush Jonathan Stewart who did little to nothing considering the matchup he had and started in more than half of my 9 leagues. Williams started in one and was a waiver wire pickup, I half expected Williams to get Stewart's garbage time, and what a surprise it was to me when I realized it was exactly the opposite, Like me you should really keep an eye on the Running back situation in Carolina.
Disappointments
The Seahawks- I don't know where to start, Hasselback went out, Branch went out and is likely out for the season. The only shining stars for the Hawks were Bobby Engram and the field goal kicker. 6 points off a bye week with the 2 starting receivers. They were playing the Giants that D is tough and I didn't expect much. This week they have the Bucs and it looks like more of a favorable matchup. Going down the stretch I like Engram he deserves a waiver pickup if you do not have him already. I expect much more than this week down the stretch.
Chad Johnson-Ocho cinqo, deemed to be a top 5 wide receiver. Who caught most of the passes in the Cincinnati offense? None other than the real receiver for the Bengals TJ Houshmanzadeh! I don't like Johnson and if you can get something for him look at trading the "All Talk No Walk Terrell Owens."
Chiefs- Larry Johnson, I am sorry to inform you even after his wonderful weeks is not the real deal, however his backup, Jamaal Charles is the guy I would be wanting from the Kc run game If I wanted anyone. Check out TheTruth's news post this week here. I expect he will be the starter through the second half of the season. The defense I don't want to even get on that tangent. They are horrible verging on the Lions which is a new word to use for worse than horrible. All teams against them are good even really bad offensive teams like the Lions, or the Bungles.
Jaguars Run Game- What is wrong down there in Jacksonville, I don't usually rant but this rant worthy. From week to week this has looked stupid. They have 2 of the best rushers in the NFL in Fred Taylor and Jones Drew , What the hell are they doing pass and pass and pass. In the 2 wins they have they rushed the ball more than passed it. Grant it 2 weeks they played Pittsburgh and Tennessee two great run defenses. Run more you win I can see a trend can't you Del Rio?
Lions Offense- Last but most certainly not least, what the hell is wrong with the lions offense, Certainly everyone expected Kitna, Williams, and Johnson to all have big years but this week. Granted Kitna goes out. Nothing from any of them but yardage no TD's from the supposed Hot Lions offense. Maybe its just the Bears but I doubt it.
