Well it was a hectic week 5, many fantasy owners started their core few and lost because of the no name people taking over and exploding in certain offenses. Much like me with Plaxico Burress out, I had a friend ask me "who would you start since he is out this week." The first name that came to mind was Toomer . Ha was I wrong, I did for my defense also state Hixon which was the fantasy god in New York this weekend. Sinorice Moss, Santana's little brother also played a big role in the Giants week 5 win, and who could have predicted that. Eli Manning what can I say, I picked Peyton in a couple of leagues when I could have drafted a RB and waited till round 4 to pick up Eli. The Giants continue to be the powerhouse offense this year and looking much like the Patriots of last year. A very big surprise none the less.
Building a website is tough enough, getting people to visit and use it is even more difficult. After a year of really hard work, we're starting to see real traction. In September our unique visitors were up over 100% year over year to 13k+. The graph on the left is from our analytics provider showing the daily unique users and the rest.
I hit the Jackpot this week or so I thought until I flipped over the channel to the Panthers game and saw it was DeAngelo Williams and not Jonathan Stewart running up the score. I almost wept because I only started Williams in one league and that was because I thought he would get Stewart's garbage time, Vice Versa. How could I have known? Well I couldn't, and you tend to kick yourself for knowing that you had down both backs, but you also kick yourself because you know most people started the featured back as I did. So when Stewart scored his 7 fantasy points and sat on the sidelines while Williams ran amuck on the Chiefs poor pitiful defense, I felt your pain because I was right there losing with you. If I put someone in this column you can pretty much believe If I have them they are starting. If I put them in the Flex it will be there (Flex), It all boils down to, If I don't even take my own advice how can I expect you to take it. We columnists and I will say this generally speaking, (For Myself) I don't even follow my teams anymore really, I mean I check the scores. When I am watching a football game I am routing for the players I said to sit to fail, the ones I said to start blow up and the ones I said to pickup to be great for that week. If all that is frutatious. Then I feel good, I havent felt good for awhile but this week I felt damn good. So on with the constant self loathing.
Welcome
to Fantasy Football Rant, Week Five Edition.
Well,
here we are. As the guys with LOSING RECORDS like to call
it: “still early” in the Fantasy Football season, or as I like to call it: “more than 1/3 finished” the Fantasy Football "regular" season. With
the falling Autumn temperatures in the North, and falling businesses, banks, and
bankers on Wall Street, it’s easy to lose focus on the most important thing in life;
the NFL and Fantasy football.
Let’s focus on some of
those NFL stories, after 5 weeks, now.
In a down year for the Big Ten publicity-wise - thanks to early,
high-profile non-conference losses by Michigan to Utah, Ohio State to
USC, Michigan State to Cal, and Illinois to Mizzou - there isn't much
buzz about several of the better Big Ten players entering the draft
this year (as long as you leave out the misplaced enthusiasm for Purdue
QB Curtis Painter, who just this week got replaced in the fourth
quarter after hacking it up against the Nittany Lions).
However, NFL Eye For The College Guy would like to highlight the
efforts of Spartan running back Javon Ringer, as he fits the prototype
of an emerging hot commodity in the NFL - the speedy, undersized
tailback who plays excellently in space.
It's been a wild 4 weeks to start the season. We're about ¼ of the way through, so let's take a look at some guys that have surpassed our expectations so far and some guys that have been disappointing.
In a season chock full of surprises, the Tennessee Titans have become big news by getting off to a 4-0 start. Most experts overlooked the Titans when making their pick for a likely winner of the AFC South, a division in which the Indianapolis Colts and the Jacksonville Jaguars get most of the attention. But with the Colts and Jags struggling early, along with a lack of heat coming from the Houston Texans, the Titans find themselves in fine position to lead the charge for a playoff run. And considering that the Titans are accomplishing all of this without the services of their supposed franchise QB Vince Young, one would be compelled to wonder how all of this success came about. Well, I definitely think it is a worthy pursuit to dig around a little and take a look at the team as a whole.
A week away from the column and I feel like it has been a month. Brett Favre finally got to lead the point standings. For him Six touchdowns is unheard of, Cotchery went off and so did Coles. Not to mention that rookie TE, I placed on my Pickups at the start of the season, Dustin Keller. No immediate impact so I dropped him. Bobby Engram and Deion Branch are headed back. The rookie running back that everyone wanted to see but never got to start finally starts and is out for the season (Mendenhall). Everyone thinks the Pats are going to "fix" their offense against the Niners. Well San Fran's defense is not that horrid but maybe they do. Your question may be with all these matchups who do I start? Who's speaking the truth and who is just running their Yap. Funny word for the mouth isn't it? Well I will give you some golden boys and some not so golden boys this week. Your Jets are on bye so it's pretty much affirmed Favre isn't going to throw 6 TD's this week.
Welcome to Week 5’s
Pickups/Drops. I’m basing my analysis on
Yahoo! League stats as well as my own intuition. This week I’m taking some chances and
recommending some risky drops and adds, so here we go.
This is a list of the players who are banged up this
week and actually matter in fantasy football. Check back daily as I will be
updating this list as teams practice and as any new word on players starts
coming in. Last updated: Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008.
